Day 1

45 min flight 4 hrs walk50 kms flight 8 kms walk1410m ascent

Kathmandu (1200m) - Lukla (2840m) - Phakding (2610m)

We fly with a small twin-engine plane to Lukla (2840m). We start the trek with a descent to Ghat (2490m) in the valley of the Dudh Kosi (Milk River). Then we continue to Phakding (2610m) for our first night.

Day 2

5 ½ hrs walk11 kms walk830m ascent

Phakding (2610m) - Namche Bazaar (3440m)

A tough day awaits us. In total, about 900 meters up to Namche Bazar. At Monjo we enter the Sagarmatha National Park. We see Thamserku (6608m) towering high above us. Following the Dudh Kosi for the fifth and last time, we have a tough final climb high above the river to Namche Bazaar. With clear weather, in the distance we can see Mount Everest and Lhotse. We stay in a comfortable lodge in Namche Bazaar (3440m). If we just go up in the direction of the military camp and go just around the corner we can see Everest and the Ama Dablan. Namche Bazaar is a commercial city, on Saturdays there is a famous market and many lodge owners come to buy their supplies.

Day 3

Explore Namche Bazaar (3440m)

We allow one extra day for acclimatization in Namche Bazaar where we make a short hike with views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Everest mountains. We just go around the corner in the direction of Kenjoma where we have lunch and get accustomed to the altitude. This is really necessary because the next few days we only go uphill.

Day 4

4 hrs walk5 kms walk400m ascent

Namche Bazaar (3440m) - Thame (3840m)

Today we walk at a leisurely pace through Thamo to the village of Thame (3840m). We walk slowly because the elevation will be noticeable. With nice views to the other side of the valley and high above us the peaks of the Nupla, Shar and Lho Nup we walk along above the Bhote Kosi river. At Thame, a visit to the monastery is very worthwhile. East of Thame is the Rolwaling area with beautiful high peaks and sonorous names such Bigphera Go Shar, Panayo Tippa and Tengi Rai Tau.
